Marcia Cross lands role on ‘Fatrick’ pilot directed by ‘Community’s’ Jim Rash, ‘Ben and Kate’ star

Pilot season is starting to get a little bit more interesting now, and mostly because of some of the actors that are coming into play for it.

After spending eight years on “Desperate Housewives” as Bree, for example, Marcia Cross is now getting back into TV with a role in the new Fox comedy pilot “Fatrick.” The name is pretty juvenile, but the same sort of thing you would probably expect from the network. Specifically, Cross is going to play the part of Arlene on the show, a nutritionist who has a complicated relationship with Patrick, a former fat kid and the star of the show trying to reconcile his past with his present.

We cannot really say that the premise alone is the most excited thing in the world, mostly because it feels like “Mike & Molly” and “New Girl” have already made enough fat jokes to last a lifetime. But, there are some pretty fantastic names working behind the scenes. Nahnatchka Khan and Corey Nickerson of “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23” are writing the script, and they’ve got “The Descendants’ writers Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (also known for their roles on “Community” and “Ben & Kate,” respectively) in charge of directing the pilot.

When you look at what the current landscape is for most comedies on Fox, you have to think that this should could have a pretty good shot. What’s the primary reason for that? Just look at the ratings that “Dads” and “The Mindy Project” are getting. Even though “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is a great show, its ratings are also still a little bit suspect. Hopefully the post-Super Bowl show is going to help to change that to a certain extent.

What do you think about Cross coming back for a show like this, which has a silly premise but potential? Share some of what you think below!
