‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3, episode 12 spoilers: First photo of Rebecca Mader’s Wicked Witch

Brace yourselves, since the third season of “Once Upon a Time” is about to get significantly more wicked than ever before. We are of course talking about none other than the famed Wicked Witch of the West, who is going to be gracing the show for a pretty substantial arc through the spring of 2014.

And, playing this role is a woman in Rebecca Mader who executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are very familiar with already, given that they worked together with her during her time as Charlotte on “Lost.” Her role here is far more evil, at least in the way that there is darkness straight at her core. This witch is one of the most iconic villains in literary history, and she also should serve as quite the worthy adversary for Regina now that she and Rumpelstiltskin are on the same page.

But in what world will we see her now? The photo attached here (first shared by E! News) suggests that much more in the way of green screens will be used to tell the tale, and that at least makes a good bit of sense given that they are back in the Fairytale World, and there are only so many locations that the show can adequately create. It is still unclear as to how the show will differentiate from past stories and what is transpiring in the present, just as the story is also unclear as to how Captain Hook managed to travel back to New York City and find Emma. He had to be looking for her for quite some time in order for him to ultimately figure out who she is now, and what sort of life she’s been living.
