‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: One more tease on 100th episode

If you enjoy “The Vampire Diaries,” then you are probably feeling somewhat bummed at the thought of not getting to see more of it for at least a little while. The show is on hiatus until January 23, where it will be back with one of the most notable episodes of its entire run so far: The 100th one of the series. It is an opportunity to really find out just what comes next for the series, and for us to start to figure out whether or not Katherine is going to actually live through her current injuries after falling down the stairs (a surprisingly human injury).

In a new post on Twitter after the new episode aired on Thursday night, executive producer Julie Plec was quick to share her own comment about just what you can expect from the episode:

“Thx for watching the 99th ep. of The Vampire Diaries. Jan 23 will bring you ep. 100 and all the surprises you could ever wish for. #TVD100.”

So what does “all the surprises you could ever wish for” really mean? Basically, it mostly means a time for change. While we wonder whether or not Katherine survives, this may be an opportunity for some of the other characters on the show to reflect. There are no better opportunities for rapid change than when there is tragedy surrounding you, and that could happen here. Losing Katherine would be a huge blow to everyone; Elena would lose yet another doppelganger, Damon and Stefan would lose someone that they were connected to, and Elijah over on “The Originals” loses someone who understands the past better than most.
