‘American Idol’ news: See a new (and rare) David Archuleta performance

The latest -It’s been a while since you’ve probably had an opportunity to see David Archuleta perform, and for good reason. The former “American Idol” star has been on a Mormon mission in Chile for the past year and a bit, and while his team has done a pretty excellent job of posting updates and memories during this lengthy absence, that is still a long time to be away from the public eye and from most technology as a whole.

However, it is the rarity of these sightings and performances these days that makes when we do hear his voice again somewhat more special. The latest example of this is the video we discovered today via Mjsbigblog: An opportunity to hear him perform what is a pretty classic holiday hymn in Santiago. The song, “O Ven, O Ven Emmanuel,” is the Spanish-language version of “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” and the performance is just as moving as you would expect from him.

David will return from his mission likely in the spring of next year pending any further interruptions, and it will be pretty interesting to see what he chooses to do with his time upon arrival. We cannot even fathom what it must be like stepping back into his crazy life after so much time away, and we’re sure that almost right away, it is going to feel somewhat overwhelming to suddenly have this much attention cast upon you again. Here’s to hoping that he formed wonderful experiences while he was away, and he comes back inspired to enjoy life and also share some music with us! He did a great job preparing for his absence, but we’re about at the time now where we know some people are hankering for something new.

As for Archuleta’s former show, “American Idol XIII” is set to premiere on Fox next month. If you want to see some of the new footage all about it, be sure to click here! We will of course have some more news related to the show as we start to hear all about it.
