‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Grant Gustin’s Flash will now receive separate pilot
Some change are in the air for “Arrow” season 2, and they could be changes for the better when it comes to allowing The Flash to get his own standalone pilot to better launch a spin-off series airing next year.
According to Deadline, the decision has now been made for the CW series to forego the previously-planned backdoor pilot that was going to be the 20th episode of this season, and to transition instead into one that will film separately, and be directed by David Nutter (who directed the pilot for the original series). What’s distinctive about this is that it will provide a better opportunity to actually get to know the story of the Barry Allen character, and in addition to that, it will also allow for an opportunity for the network to spend a little bit more money than vs. a standard episode of “Arrow.”
We also have a little bit of our own conspiracy twist on the idea: Is it possible at all that “Arrow” wants to try to keep their show as superpower-free as possible? Cutting out the Flash pilot would get rid of a major superpower component of the show, and would allow his origin story to be better told somewhere else. If this is the reasoning behind it at all, we have no problem with it. The past few episodes this season, even the subpar one where Oliver Queen decided to sleep with Isobel Rochev, are still much better than any other superhero show out there. Why rock the boat when you don’t need to? (With this being said, we know that there are some more superpower elements coming to the show outside of Barry.)
The photo above is the first look at Grant Gustin as Barry, and it’s a choice that has already divided fans. Some don’t think he looks old enough, whereas others just are not that appreciative of the fact that they hired someone best known from his part on “Glee.” All we have to say about all this is that after the “Arrow” casting was announced for Stephen Amell, there were a good many people complaining that he wasn’t Justin Hartley. Nobody’s complaining anymore.
You can read some more details on Barry’s arrival to the show over here, and we will have a more in-depth preview soon to the rest of “Arrow” season 2.
