‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6, episode 9 preview: Charlie Hunnam, secrets, meaning of ‘John 8:32’

Jax -If you thought for whatever reason that tonight’s “Sons of Anarchy” was slow-moving and not enough happened, don’t worry: Big things are coming next week in “John 8:32.” There will be violence, there will be threats, and there is also going to be that meeting between Jax and D.A. Patterson that you may have been eagerly waiting to see.

Let’s start this preview article off with the disappointing news in the official synopsis via FX (and by disappointing, we’re mostly referring to ho wit reveals almost nothing):

“Jax learns new secrets that turn his world sideways. Written by Kem Nunn & Kurt Sutter; directed by Guy Ferland.”

In case you missed it previously when we talked about it, the Bible verse in the title for this episode is (per the NIV version) “then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Want to read more context about how that scene takes place in the Book? We have it for you here, but in the context of the story when it comes to Jax and SAMCRO, obviously this plays back in to the notion of secrets and the truth actually being the best option for some of these characters. If you think about it, everyone from Nero to Tara has tried to get what they want as of late with lies, even if their intentions may or may not be for the greater good; ultimately, it has not gotten them into a better situation. This may be the time when truth yields action, and action yields results.

But for Charlie Hunnam’s character in particular, the dilemma in this episode will be how to handle Patterson now that she has leaked the MC to the press as a link to the school shooting. It is not easy to defeat someone known for the truth using lie after lie, and this may be the time for not only Jax, but for the rest of those men sitting at the table, to try to find another way.
