‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4 spoilers: How Ian Harding’s Ezra is not Toby 2.0

At this point on “Pretty Little Liars” last year, we were all sitting around and wondering one thing: Are we going to see Toby 2.0 when it comes to Ian Harding’s character of Ezra? When it comes to what Keegan Allen was forced to play, it was more or less the idea that Toby could somehow be a bad guy as a member of the “A Team.” As it turned out, though, it was more that he was a red herring, and a guy who was trying to infiltrate the organization from within to protect those that he loved.

We’ll just say to you that he is guilty of something — he is very guilty of something. This is not a Toby switcharoo where he’s working on the inside trying to find out who ‘A’ is. So while executive producer Oliver Goldstick may be somewhat hesitant right now to say that Ezra is for sure the Biggest Bad on the show, he did tell TVLine that this is a man who definitely has something to hide, and he is not trying to just keep Aria safe courtesy of his nefarious alter ego:

“Red herring? No. I’ll just say to you that he is guilty of something — he is very guilty of something. This is not a Toby switcharoo where he’s working on the inside trying to find out who ‘A’ is.”

Goldstick also confirmed that for season 4, there will at least be a good portion of the story that revolves around the Liars slowly and surely uncovering clues that draw them closer and closer to Ezra. He is not going to be able to get out this without being found out at some point, and the hardest part of this is going to be for Aria. She’s spent quite a bit of time as of late wandering around with blinders on, and it’s for that reason that she will need a cold snap of reality.
