NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Could Cee Lo Green’s potential drug charge hamper future on show?
One of the reasons that NBC has managed to find itself such an enormous hit in “The Voice” is because it’s fun, family entertainment. There’s no drama between the coaches most of the time, the contestants are likable and not overly edited, and the show is encouraging as a whole.
So to have a situation where one of the coaches is charged with a felony could, at least in theory, be an issue. However, in this circumstance it appears that it won’t be a job-killer for Cee Lo Green after the news broke today (via TMZ) that he will almost surely be charged with a felony over his use of ecstasy. This stems from a situation with a former lover that led to some other charges being raised, but they were all dropped due to insufficient evidence.
However, Mark Burnett dispelled any rumors today of this charge costing Cee Lo his job by saying that he will not be “fired” from the show in any capacity. The live shows return next month to NBC, and from that point, the competition will press forward until the start of the holiday season. The show remains NBC’s highest-rated program on the network away from football, and so they air two seasons of the show a year.
Following this fall’s competition, Cee Lo is going to take a break, and will be replaced yet again by two coaches in Usher who was a part of the show this past spring. Meanwhile, Shakira will once again replace Christina as a part of the panel. Right now, the competition is in the Battle Rounds, and it will follow that up with the Knockouts before making it to the part of the show where Cee Lo will be required to be live with Adam Levine, Christina, and Blake Shelton.
Do you think Cee Lo’s potential charge should have any impact on his job at all, or do you think that he should be invited back for a future season regardless? Be sure to share some of your thoughts on the subject below, and stay tuned if you want to read some more scoop from the world of “The Voice.”
