‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 4 review: Is Robert Kirkland or Reede Smith Red John?
Another week closer to the end of the Red John investigation on “The Mentalist,” and we are another suspect closer to the case being closed. The list of suspects is now down to five, but this did not come without some pretty scary moments. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
For one, we learned that there was a major security threat in the form of someone who ironically had ties to homeland security. Robert Kirkland, one of the Red John suspects, was killed by Reede Smith at the end of the episode, but after he was already carted away to prison. In theory, it seems like it was brought on by the Tyger Tyger Conspiracy, but then there are a massive amount of questions that also go along with that.
If you are pretty new to this series, you are going to be lost if you didn’t binge watch the other 5 seasons. Meanwhile, this was a gift to longtime fans in the way in which everything is linking together. This was an episode that really did try to deal with mostly only the Red John case, which is a sign that the show is not wasting any time focusing on other subjects that no one really cares about.
In the end, Jane is close to nabbing Red John. Very close. The only thing that you have to wonder is whether or not he is close enough to really make a big move. Reede obviously is a killer, and that alone has to put him at the top of the list, but is he almost too obvious? Given the amount of time that you are going to be waiting here for the mystery to be resolved, we imagine that there are still some twists coming that you will not expect. All we can say for now is this: We had a pretty strong episode of the show tonight. Not only was the intensity factor high, but there were some pretty nice moments to boot for Jane and Lisbon. Grade: B

First, this show is getting very, very dark. With the intelligence of all the characters this isn’t necessary in my opinion.
Here is my prediction, for someone who has watched and taped every episode from the beginning…….Red John is Van Pelt. She spends a lot of time with research and
no one would suspect her. However, I feel she is either a close relative of friend of Jane’s wife. If true, she could be making Jane pay for his wife’s tragic end.
