NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: Nathan Fillion cast for cleanup duty
It’s hard to contain the excitement that we have for the following story, so we’re really not going to: NATHAN FILLION WILL BE JOINING COMMUNITY. For those who love “Firefly,” Joss Whedon, or of course “Community,” this may go down as our favorite casting news of the entire fall. It’s a mystery to us how Fillion has the time away from “Castle” to shoot this, but we don’t really care.
Deadline is the first to report that Fillion, and avid fan of the show who even visited the set last year just for the fun of it, is going to be guest-starring on an upcoming installment of the NBC hit in the role of Bob Waite, a seemingly powerful custodian who guards the hallowed halls of Greendale with pride. He will be spending time on the show specifically with Alison Brie’s Annie and Jonathan Banks’ Professor Hickey, which to us means that this will be the rare opportunity for four of our favorite shows in “Firefly,” “Community,” “Mad Men,” and “Breaking Bad” to all come together with just a simple scene. If this does not make your geek brain explode, you are clearly not doing it right.
While Fillion often plays somewhat-comedic roles, he has not been a major part of any show of this sort since his days on “Two Guys and a Girl,” which helped him launch his career on primetime TV. It’s thoroughly exciting news, as he joins a list of guest stars for the year that includes “Switched at Birth” star Katie Leclerc and returning favorites LeVar Burton and John Oliver, who will be back as Ian Duncan for a good many episodes.
