‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Patrick Dempsey on Meredith, Derek’s latest struggle
Ironically, the struggle that we are talking about here on “Grey’s Anatomy” season 10 is nothing to do with people dying or major trouble in the relationship. Instead, it’s something as simple as Meredith and Derek being (insert heavy gasp) being forced into doing work at home raising children rather than running around like headless chickens at the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. It’s something that many parents can relate to, both from the standpoint of parenting and driving one other stir-crazy thanks to taking time off work to be with a young child.
Speaking to TV Guide, Patrick Dempsey teases that the issue here is that both Derek and Meredith want variety in their lives, and being stuck in the monotony of diaper-changing is not something that will appeal to them early on in this season following baby Bailey’s birth:
“They’re struggling a bit because they want to get back in the ER. They’re just losing their minds and they want to have something else to do. They get stuck just doing dishes and diapers.”
Do we expect this to be a season-long struggle for these two characters? The answer here is a definitive “no,” mostly because watching Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo be at home for 24 episodes would hardly be challenging or interesting material either for them or us as viewers. They will find some other ways to get involved here early on, and that will extend to whenever they do inevitably return to their day jobs.
