ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: Lisa Kudrow surprising new addition to cast

What we love to see when it comes to TV casting news is something that we never see coming … at least so long as it is not something that is completely random and doomed to fail. We don’t feel that way about Lisa Kudrow, so there is no reason to feel anything other than confident about what is going to be coming up with her on the third season of “Scandal.”

This news was first reported by Deadline, along with the oh-so tiny description that she is going to be playing the part of a politician on the show. Sadly, we know that this hardly enough news to really satisfy, but we are happy that we even got that. Kudrow is of course much more familiar for her comedic stylings, whether it be on “Friends” or “Web Therapy,” and this is a pretty nice departure.

However, this casting may not be as shocking as you would first think when you consider some of the forces working here behind the scenes. Kudrow has a producing partner in Dan Bucatinsky, who acts on this show as Cyrus’ husband and also writes on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Therefore, there are some pretty nice connections there already in the world Shonda Rhimes has created.

We imagine that this show, at least right now, does have to be one of the more in-demand projects that is floating around out there. It delivered phenomenal ratings during much of season 2, and based on the cliffhanger that we had regarding the affair coming out, there is literally no reason to believe that everyone is going to start the new season and collectively yawn.
