‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Exec teases deadlier Big Bad, other changes

ArrowWhen you have a season of a show like “Arrow” that is as successful as this one was both creatively and commercially, there is a question that comes out of that almost immediately: Where do you go from here? Can you really make it better, or is it a mistake to try to just one-up yourself?

For this second season, we are going to see some things that follow a “above and beyond” approach, including a new lair for Oliver Queen that is designed in part by Felicity. However, the goal here really just seems to be to make things different rather than to just go down the same road over and over again. With that in mind, executive producer Marc Guggenheim had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly about coming up with the perfect Big Bad to rule the roost this season:

“Our goal was to come up with someone who was as good an antagonist for Oliver as Malcolm was without being a Malcolm Merlyn clone … This is someone who is going about things in a very different way than Malcolm did and is perhaps even more deadly as a result.”

Is this Big Bad the one played by Summer Glau? That is still unclear, but Guggenheim explained that there is a very big announcement pertaining to the show that is coming up at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend, and we’re guessing that it will likely have something to do with casting.
