‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: A painful time for Paul Wesley’s Stefan

Paul WesleyWhen “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 picks up on The CW come Thursday, October 10, one of the questions that we know many fans will want addressed is the state of Paul Wesley’s character of Stefan. Will he have managed to escape from his current watery prison? It doesn’t sound like it; instead, he will be forced to undergo the sort of torment that only a vampire could be forced into dealing with.

Speaking in TV Guide’s new Comic-Con issue (per SpoilerTV), executive producer Julie Plec offers up a bit of a harrowing tease for the Stefan character, as he has to also handle the news that Silas, his doppelganger, is up above ground causing all sorts of havoc that is unfortunately out of his control:

“He’ll drown, wake up, drown again, wake up again … you’ll see what amount of psychological damage it does to him.”

For Wesley as an actor, there has to be a certain kind of appreciation that comes with taking on a story like this. It is clearly a much more powerful and emotional thing playing two characters as opposed to one, especially when one of them in Silas carries the enormous amount of emotional backstory that we are going to see. Silas will have a critical role early on in the season; how long it lasts remains a mystery for the time being, just as it will be seen whether or not some of these characters will fall victim to him bearing such a strong similarity to the famed Salvatore brother.

What do you think about seeing Stefan in such a brutal and terrifying position on the show? If you want to read some more news on Caroline’s new love interest for “The Vampire Diaries” season 5, you can do so over here.
