‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: Heather Morris not a regular; Dianna Agron may not appear at all
“Glee” fans, you likely knew that most of this was coming, and despite the formal way in which it is being announced, none of this really comes as too much of a surprise at all.
According to TVLine, Heather Morris (Brittany), Mark Salling (Puck), Amber Riley (Mercedes), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will not be series regulars on the upcoming fifth season of the show, though they will likely still make several guest appearances over the course of the season. This move was obvious for a number of reasons, beginning with the fact that Heather is pregnant with her first child, and you may have not realized that any of the other actors were regulars at all last season. This is a budget-related move, but we’re saddest for Amber given that Mercedes is the only one of this group that was a part of that original “Don’t Stop Believin'” performance years ago that started the phenomenon in the first place.
In also unsurprising news, Dianna Agron is likely to not appear at all this coming season, unless she signs on for an episode later on in the year. The woman behind Quinn Fabray is in the process of pursuing a career in the movies, meaning that she will probably not have that much time to actually spend parading around McKinley High. With that being said, it’s a little bit strange to have her last major highlight be hooking up with Santana for a night of “experimentation” after Will and Emma’s botched wedding.
As sad as this makes us, this news is a sign that “Glee” realizes right now that one of their biggest problems is that this cast is almost big enough to be 5 different shows. We expect some more possible cuts to happen following the upcoming graduation, as some of the current students not graduating (i.e. Marley, Jake, and Ryder) will probably have less screen-time.
