‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Premiere will officially be an hour
When we posted our story yesterday about the upcoming fall schedule for CBS, the open 8:30 p.m. Eastern time slot on Monday, September 23 suggested to us one thing: Just like with this past season, “How I Met Your Mother” is going to kick things off with an hour-long episode.
Luckily, this news has finally been confirmed. While some comedies really cannot stomach running for longer than a half hour, this show pulls it off and then some, mostly because they have to realize just how terrible it is that fans have been waiting for as long as they have to find out more information about the Mother. We’ve already seen the character played by Cristin Milioti, and we’ve also heard her; however, the one thing that we are still very much waiting to do is find out some more about who she really is. Plus, we don’t know her actual name yet, and seeing that along with her meeting some of Ted’s friends over the course of season 9 is going to make for pretty-exciting TV.
The only downside to having an hour-long premiere is that you are going to have fewer episodes to show after the fact. When you combine this with what will likely be a one-hour finale, you’ve basically given yourself the equivalent of 22 weeks in which there are new episodes. Then again, if new comedy “We Are Men” (which will typically follow “How I Met Your Mother”) only has 22-episode order, this could work out perfectly given that this show survives what can be a pretty terrible time slot.
