‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Claire Holt on future for Matt, Rebekah

We understand that most of the attention on “The Vampire Diaries” goes to Elena and her relationships. After all, she is the main character of the show, why wouldn’t she be front and center?

But over time, the show has formed the foundations for some other fan-favorite pairings to go along with them. Odds are that you are probably pretty familiar at this point about the link that exists between Klaus and Caroline, who have managed to get in some sweet moments in the middle of carnage (and of course her having feelings for another man in Tyler). Meanwhile, there was a small tryst between Rebekah and Matt earlier in the season, and during the finale she started to move back in the direction of Matt.  He brings out something different in her, and during the finale it seemed as though the two were going to spend the summer trying to see the world.

Could this mean that they will both be together on “The Originals”? Not so fast, since Matt does still have a role on the flagship series their love might not be meant to be. Claire Holt did tell TV Guide recently, though, that fans should not count the two characters out simply because they are in separate series:

“I think [executive producer Julie Plec’s] left the door open for us to have crossovers … I’m really excited for that, and that there’s more stories to tell on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and so many on ‘The Originals.'”

The two film sets are literally within minutes of each other in Atlanta, so that certainly helps when it comes to crossovers. That and potential fan revolt should be enough to make sure that the storyline continues to go strong.
