‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 finale spoilers: Death, life, and season 5 possibilities
For the past four years, you have seen the characters on “The Vampire Diaries,” even the ones that are supposed to be semi-immortal, find a way to grow up and mature. Thursday’s season finale is a microcosm of that, as we have the rite of passage known as graduation. For any high schooler, this is a very exciting and confusing time, but for people in a town stuffed with supernatural creatures? It may be something else entirely.
There has not been very much of this made publicly just yet, but we do wonder whether or not someone like Matt Donovan is just going to consider moving away from Mystic Falls. His situation is almost similar to Hoyt on “True Blood” last season: Why stay somewhere that you know you are at risk of dying in almost every day, especially when there are chances to go away and find some peace and quiet somewhere else? He’s not dating anyone, so save for friendships, he has little skin in the game.
As for what we know for sure we will see, here are a few assorted bits on the “Graduation” episode:
1. Someone will die – You can take this as the “dead” going back into the earth, or someone living on the show actually joining the dead. Your choice.
2. Closure on the cure – Somebody is going to take it, but who? Don’t expect the obvious.
3. The triangle is reborn – Love it or hate it, but Elena will yet again have a choice to make between Damon and Stefan.
4. Closure with Tyler? – We’ll at least know what’s next for Caroline when it comes to her love life.
5. Moving to “The Originals” – There has to at least be something in here to put a bow on Klaus’ adventures in Mystic Falls, at least long enough for him to prepare for a move to New Orleans.
As for season 5, expect to see the final few minutes of this episode to directly carry over, but much else is a mystery. There will be a greater percentage of new characters than usual, since the show has quite a few to replace.
