‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4, episode 19 review: [Spoiler] returns in time for prom!

Ian SomerhalderThere are always some surprises at every prom and on “The Vampire Diaries” Thursday night, we definitely had some that were of the good and bad variety.

Since we don’t want to start things off by being extremely negative, let’s start by actually focusing on the positive: Tyler Lockwood is back! Well, for only one week if nothing else. Michael Trevino’s character is still understandably terrified of being anywhere near Klaus, and the only real solace that he could take from this celebration was that Matt had orchestrated a way in which to keep him from being able to drop in. The unfortunate thing is that Klaus still waited for him outside, but was nice enough to let him escape so that Caroline could have one of the best nights of her life.

Now, for all of the negatives. First and foremost, Elena was once again completely on a tear when it comes to some of her actions. She pretty much sucked April dry, putting Rebekah in a situation where she had to make the decision to save her, or to prove that she really cared about other humans and thus was human while still being a vampire.

While there is still plenty of danger coming up when it comes to Silas, the Salvatores finally figured out a way in which to really get to Elena: fear. If they are going to get to that humanity switch, they are going to have to really make her hate every second of her life. The only other cliffhangers here was a great set-up that allowed Klaus to go to New Orleans, and really getting the opportunity to see Silas in his real form.

Overall, this was another complicated episode of the show, and we ultimately think that the show may be doing the right thing now in shifting some of the other characters to “The Originals,” that way “The Vampire Diaries” can stay focused on what they do next?
