‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6 spoilers: First photo of Bob Newhart as Professor Proton
As you have probably heard countless times by this point, “The Big Bang Theory” is going to bring on a touch of TV royalty prior to its May 2 episode; specifically, Bob Newhart is going to be guest-starring as “Professor Proton,” a childhood hero of Leonard and Sheldon’s who they hire to come and speak with them at their apartment once they learn he is taking private gigs.
The photo attached here comes courtesy of TV Guide, and it shows Jim Parsons’ character being clearly enamored over someone who may not even be a real scientist at all. Executive producer Chuck Lorre asked the former “Newhart” star what it would take to appear on one of his shows, and he chose this one thanks to the writing and also the live audience. This information is according to Newhart himself, who also explained the basic premise of the half-hour from his perspective:
“Sheldon and Leonard watched it religiously, and it influenced them to go into science. When they find out he’s doing appearances, they book an appointment.”
Apparently, Penny is also going to be around to watch this guy in action. How long will she stay put for? That is an entirely different question. It’s feasible that in the world of the show she would have also heard of Professor Proton, but given her status as a bully during her early years, this may just be thanks to kids she made fun of talking about it in class.
