‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6 spoilers: Official synopsis for Bob Newhart episode

Big Bang TheoryYou likely heard previously that Bob Newhart is set to guest-star on an upcoming season 6 episode of “The Big Bang Theory” as Professor Proton, a childhood favorite of Dr. Sheldon Cooper who rings to us like Captain Kangaroo meets Bill Nye the Science Guy. Now, we have at least one or two more details to add to that courtesy of the official CBS press release.

“The Proton Resurgence” airs on Thursday, May 2 from 8:00-8:31 p.m. Eastern, and in addition to the story regarding Newhart’s character (which Leonard is also involved with), we are also going to see Howard and Bernadette take on a story about responsibility:

“Sheldon and Leonard hire Professor Proton, the host of their favorite childhood TV show, to perform. Also, Howard and Bernadette run into trouble babysitting Raj’s dog.”

Is the idea of a “dog” meant to be a metaphor for something greater to Howard and Bernadette? It’s something certainly worth discussing, since children are a point of tension between the couple that existed even before they were married. However, it has not been touched on for most of this season, and this could provide an opportunity to bring it back to the forefront to see if anything has changed since the two started living together as husband and wife. (The jury’s out on why Raj needs help with babysitting in the first place.)

As for the Newhart storyline, this is really something that is probably better if it stays under wraps, mostly since it is an opportunity to watch a comedy legend share energy with some actors who are currently in a place that he once was: as the star of one of TV’s most-popular shows.

Is this the “Big Bang Theory” episode that you are looking forward to seeing more than any other this season? Be sure to share some of your thoughts with a comment below, and you can read some early details on the season 6 finale over at the link here.
