TNT’s ‘Dallas’ finale spoilers: Patrick Duffy teases resolution to J.R.’s death
While “Dallas” may leave fans with some sort of cliffhanger following the end of its season 2 finale on Monday night, it’s not going to relate to what happened to J.R. Ewing, or what some of his plans were right before his tragic death. This has been a story that has been building ever since the tragic news of Larry Hagman’s death came out following the Thanksgiving holiday last year, and in order to move forward, the writers and producers on TNT drama want to close the book on that chapter.
For more on this subject, we turn to series star Patrick Duffy, who had the following to say in an interview with Access Atlanta about how the finale will tie together the J.R. storyline; and given his own history with the show, he’s as good of a person to ask as anyone when it comes to what could happen on the show next:
“We’re going to resolve completely the entire J.R. question … It will be wrapped up in a nice little bow. What happens is textbook Dallas. But by wrapping up those questions, we’ve put so many irons in the fire for next season.”
Meanwhile, Duffy also elaborated on the dichotomy that exists for him between a character reminiscing about the life of another character, and an actor talking about the death of someone who he has known for several decades:
“I have polar opposite feelings that reside in me … On the show, as an actor, it’s easy to play the scenes where everyone is sad about his death. On the other side, I enjoy those scenes knowing he’d be laughing about being talked so much. On the personal side, I really miss the day-to-day fun I had with my best friend. That being said, every time I think about him, I smile. There’s not a tear in my eye. What a great 35 years I had with this guy.”
There is no word yet on whether or there will be a “Dallas” season 3, but stay tuned, as will have more on the future of the show as soon as it becomes available.

What a well-written show with outstanding performances from the original cast as well as the younger generation. They also do a great job introducing new characters played by some veteran actors like Stephen Webber and Lee Majors. A great job. TNT – PLEASE ANNOUNCE THE RENEWAL!!! Give the show multiple season renewal and let the characters grow and evolve with that freedom. You have a winner here!
