Kids Choice Awards 2013: Selena Gomez, Simon Cowell, ‘Victorious’ among winners

Kids Choice AwardsWith the 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards airing on Nickelodeon Saturday night, there were of course plenty of opportunities for a few things to happen: celebrity sightings, fun fashion choices, and of course a ton of slime. This is by far one of the more relaxed shows for stars to attend, since there really is no pressure to try and be overly serious or pander to anyone. It’s just about entertaining.

Throughout the night, we’re going to have some of the show’s picks for who were the most entertaining TV stars and personalities of the past year, along with a few words of analysis. Of course, we should preface this by saying that this writer is a grown man, and cannot thus understand or duplicate the voting patterns of a 13-year old girl.

Favorite TV Actress – Selena Gomez (“Wizards of Waverly Place”). We always wonder whether or not Nickelodeon groans with the kids pick someone on a rival Disney Channel show to win a blimp. Ultimately, though, Selena is such a big star that no one else really had that much of a chance.

Favorite TV Actor – Ross Lynch (“Austin & AJ”). We’re not going to pretend that we are altogether familiar with Lynch’s work, mostly because there are far too many shows under the sun for one man to cover. But hats off to him!

Favorite TV Show – “Victorious.” This, meanwhile, is something that Nick probably loves: a big win for a show that is going off the air, so it makes for a very good farewell gift.

Favorite Villain – Simon Cowell (“The X Factor”). While the “X Factor” ratings for the year weren’t that great, remember that many of the acts, whether it be Carly Rose Sonenclar, Emblem3, or Fifth Harmony, all probably have younger followings than anyone on “American Idol” this year. Plus, Simon’s connections to One Direction surely helped him to win this.

Favorite Reality Show – “Wipeout.” Oh, how nice it must be to be able to enjoy the simple pleasures of people falling off of giant red balls week in and week out.

Favorite Cartoon – “SpongeBob SquarePants.” Shocker? It shouldn’t be. This is the network’s biggest hit ever.
