‘Glee’ season 4, episode 17 preview: Darren Criss, Chord Overstreet rock Wham!
Thursday night’s new episode of “Glee” is going to be largely about cheesy performances, and they don’t really get a whole lot cheesier than the Wham! hit “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.” This song not only has one of the catchiest beats around, but it also reminds us more of Derek Zoolander than we probably want to admit.
So how does the show do with the song? While we really cannot give the producers any credit at all for trying to revolutionize the performance (mostly because this is as straightforward a cover as they come), they at least did a great job of capturing the spirit and the entertainment value inside of the song. Blaine (Darren Criss) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) do the best job they can as the modern-day version of Wham!, and at least the rest of New Directions gets into the game by sporting some of their very finest (or at least the finest silly costumes that they could find).
As for how this performance really works into the story of the episode right now, your guess is as good as ours, but we do definitely anticipate there being some sort of silliness that brings this performance on. However, we also know that this episode is going to somehow feature Sam learning the truth about Blaine’s little crush. What in the world is he going to do about it? We can’t see the master of love in Sam being particularly angry at him, but we also can’t seem him having feelings back considering that he is, after all, a straight man.
