ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 spoilers: Who’s the new thorn in Mellie’s side?

Nothing can be easy for the First Lady within the world of “Scandal,” can it? First, we had the affair with Olivia Pope that nearly cost Fitz everything that he had worked so hard to achieve; and now, this woman is also having to deal with a new secretary who could be helping to push her and President apart.

According to a new report from TVLine, the show is getting ready to introduce a new woman into the world of the show known as Lauren, and her primary job is going to specifically be making sure that Mellie doesn’t really get involved in anything that Fitz is up to (which is hardly a shocker, given his penchant for doing terrible things and her penchant for getting way too involved). There’s no specific word on when this woman will make her first appearance, but you have to reckon that it will be soon based solely on the fact that there is only still so much of the season left to tell.

There is one other variable in the Fitz equation that we have yet to really even talk about: Jake. This is a man who is romancing Olivia hardcore, and it is still not entirely clear to anyone just what his motivations are for it either in the short or the long-term. Will Lauren be helping the President spend some more time with his adviser-of-sorts? It’s possible, but we’re honestly hoping to see Jake continuing doing a few things behind his best, just to see someone eat away at a character that is far more interesting when he is unstable.
