‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6: Kurt Sutter talks pitching scripts, Otto

Sons of AnarchyIf there is a showrunner who has seemingly figured out the art of talking about the upcoming season of their show without really spoiling much of anything, it’s Kurt Sutter. The man behind “Sons of Anarchy” has been doing live Twitter chats every Tuesday night and posting videos every Friday for the past couple of weeks, and while he has been kind enough to share progress reports on production and general thoughts, there is so much that we really don’t know about the upcoming sixth season save for the fact that both Jimmy Smits and Donal Logue are returning for significant plotlines.

As for some people who do know a little bit more information right now (thus making the rest of the world very jealous), they are the folks over at FX. Sutter tweeted out Tuesday afternoon that, as all showrunners and writers do with a network, they sat down for a discussion on the progression of the show, and everything appears as though they received a significant stamp of approval (or at least we believe so, since FX really should be at least partially afraid of this show):

“We pitched the season 6 big arcs to FX yesterday. everyone is excited, happy… and slightly terrified. it’s good to have family.”

Just ask Graham Yost, Ryan Murphy, or Rob McElhenney while they love working with John Landgraf and FX after so many years on the job. There’s a reason they stick around in an age where many networks (see NBC, HBO, or AMC) are getting rid of executive producers and creators left and right, and that’s something known as a working relationship mixed with a little bit freedom.

In getting off the soapbox for a minute, Sutter also (of course) teased some more dark times ahead for his character of Otto, but this really can’t be a surprise given that the guy had his tongue cut off during the season 5 finale. (Plus, we’ve gotten the impression that Sutter will probably cheer the moment when this guy is finally dead and he doesn’t have to play him anymore.)

For those who have not heard, filming for “Sons of Anarchy” season 6 begins in May, and we will likely hear some more episode-specific casting news throughout the spring and summer months.

Want to hear more from Sutter when it comes to the “Sons of Anarchy” writing process? It’s pretty simple: all you have to do is venture on over to the link here.
