‘The Walking Dead’ season 4: New showrunner confirmed, new EPs named

The Walking Dead season 3The tides are turning at “The Walking Dead” following the announced exit of Glen Mazzara as showrunner, and now we know a few more details about who is going to be helping to steer the ship now.

On Wednesday, AMC confirmed that Scott M. Gimple will indeed be promoted to the position of executive producer and showrunner as previously reported, and he takes over what is going to be a very risky proposition. Mazzara is credit for actually improving the show following the departure of Frank Darabont, and considering that the series has already lost two showrunners already, we don’t know how Gimple is ever going to really feel extremely secure in this job.

Meanwhile, special-effects guru (and Emmy winner) Greg Nicotero and producer Tom Luse have each also been promoted to executive producers, a move that is meant to recognize all of the hard work that the two parties have put in on the series over the past couple of years. These changes, as with Gimple’s promotion, will come into play moving forward with the production of season 4 this spring.

There is no doubt that AMC wants to do everything that it can to ensure that “The Walking Dead” stays successful. The ratings were so strong on Sunday that they actually proved to be unfazed by the Academy Awards, and it is only second to “The Big Bang Theory” at the moment when it comes to having the top-rated broadcast of a scripted show (excluding the coveted post-Super Bowl slot) in 2013.

What do you think about some of these changes, and are you going to miss Mazzara? If you want to catch a preview for this Sunday’s episode of “The Walking Dead” season 3, you can do so over at the link here.
