‘Homeland’ season 3: Writer / producer’s new series on FX official
Meredith Stiehm received some very good news on Tuesday; however, this news may be slightly less worth celebrating if you are a major fan of the work the writer / producer has done on “Homeland” over the course of the past two seasons.
In a statement, FX confirmed that they have ordered Stiehm’s new series “The Bridge,” starring Diane Kruger and focusing on a murder that took place on a bridge between the United States and Mexico, for a 13-episode first-season order. The buzz has been strong when it comes to this series for a while, so “Homeland” executive producers Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon have thus been looking for a while for a writer to fill her place on the team.
Unfortunately, we’re not sure that someone like Stiehm really receives the credit that she deserves for penning some great episodes over the past couple of years, including “The Weekend” and “New Car Smell.” As the only woman on the writing staff for the past two seasons, the former “Cold Case” executive producer brought a female voice to Carrie Mathison that no one else could.
In announcing the decision to pick up the show, here is what FX president John Landgraf had to say about the move to pick up “The Bridge”:
“For years networks having been trying develop a drama series set on the U.S.-Mexican border without any success … I’m thrilled to say that Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid have become the first to crack that creative code, and they have done so magnificently. There have been great films set in that world – No Country for Old Men and Lone Star come to mind – but never a great TV series. This one is special.”
