‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Joanne Froggatt talks scripts, Anna’s future
As we teased over the weekend, Joanne Froggatt took part in a Q&A session via PBS’ official “Downton Abbey” site on Monday, and following the great reveal in America about Bates’ freedom the actress had plenty to talk about. You can check out all of her answers over at the link here; the ones that we are singling out for this article pertain to the future of the award-winning series.
First things first, let’s talk about a subject that yields no speculation at all. When asked about what she has seen of season 4 thus far, the actress revealed that she has seen over half of the story at this point while also sharing her emotions:
“I am really excited … I think these scripts are the best yet. Julian [Fellowes] has done such an incredible job.”
On a different note, Froggatt answered as follows when asked by a different fan about whether or not we could ever see Bates and Anna start a family in the future (and potentially have a spin-off about them running a hotel) now that they have an opportunity to be together as a family:
“What a lovely idea, Anna Bates investigates while Mr Bates delegates!”
When asked about anything more specific about the series, Froggatt declined to answer by saying that she wants to ensure that the drama for future episodes is still present, and that most major shockers by and large go unspoiled. As we wrote last night, we have some genuine concerns about whether or not some of Bates’ actions in jail are going to come back to haunt him.
What do you want to see unfold with Anna and Bates next season? Be sure to share some of your thoughts with a comment below! If you want to see who from “Downton Abbey” is going to be making an appearance on American TV soon, be sure to head on over to the link here.

Mary and Sir Richard set their date ( “Oh all right then, the end of July. Then we can be out of Londion for August!”) before Lavinia died but never told anyone at the time so Lavinia and Mattthew could be the centre of attention prior to their wedding. If you recall, at her graveside, when Mary turned to talk to Matthew and he blamed the two of them for killing Lavina with a broken heart, it was Sir Richard who was hovering in the background and who eventually stepped forward, offered his arm and asked if he might take her back to Downton. Mary readily agreed and took his arm, perhaps the first time she seemed genuinely happy to see him there ( other than when he bailed her out of the Turkish diplomat fiasco). Therefore Sir Richard was still around after Lavinia’s death and still believed they were getting married.
So, my question remains, is it ever suggested as to why they did not get married in July, especially as Cora seemed to be really pushing for it.

Jean Marie, Lady Cora and Lord Granthem’s beginnings will be covered in another series according to rumor.
Angela, no mention was made about what happened with the pension. Mary and Carlisle broke off their engagement before Lavinia died.

What happened about the widow’s pension which Daisy refused after William died? And why did Mary not get married to Carlisle the end of July as she promised him? It would have been three months after Lavinia’s death.
