ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2, episode 12 preview: Why is Olivia blaming herself?

On Thursday night’s new episode of “Scandal,” it appears as though we are going to see just what happens when Olivia Pope’s life starts to truly fall apart. She is a woman that makes her bread and butter trying to fix things for various clients … but what in the world are you going to do when the one thing you are still struggling to fix is yourself? This is a challenge that she is very much going to have to face head-on.

The sneak peek does not really provide us much in the way of answers as to Olivia’s problem right now following the massive way in which she messed up the situation with Fitz, but it is stuffed full of regret. Olivia tells Cyrus that had she just voted differently on the plane, she could have been in a much different place and in a far different situation than what she is now. But sadly, going back in time is one thing that even she is not capable of.

By the time this scene ends up rolling around, we have a feeling that Olivia will have been told about what Fitz said to Mellie, and that the downfall of his personal life at this given time would be a nightmare for him in the press. Therefore, she finds herself in a position where her personal interests (which surely include being with him) conflict in so many ways with what is right for the man’s career.
