‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Where does Allen Leech see Tom heading?
Let’s hope that Allen Leech had himself some time to relax over the past several months; after all, the actor is about to be diving back into work in a big way with “Downton Abbey” season 4. (Warning: spoilers for Americans lie ahead.)
Immediately following his show’s stunning upset at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night, the actor held a brief Q&A session with fans on PBS’ official site to help discuss the devastating loss of Lady Sybil following the birth of the couple’s daughter, and of course there were a couple of questions that inevitably came up in the process about the future of the show and of his character.
Being that we are still so early on in production of the new season, Leech is keeping very mum as to the specific storyline; however, he did at least give us a nice timeline for the show’s filming schedule, as well as some information as to whether or not Tom could be following Michelle Dockery’s Mary in getting a new love interest soon:
“I’ve read eps 1 and 2 already, more to come next week. We start filming in 2 weeks. Exciting … [As for romance], I can’t see Tom being interested in anyone for a long time.”
We imagine that this has to be an incredibly difficult position for Branson to be in for a number of reasons: not only is he having to deal with mourning the loss of a loved one, but he owes pretty much his entire social standing to her family. He struggled with this class conflict in the Christmas special, and even though he found some acceptance with the family upstairs, we still imagine this being an issue at some point.
What sort of storyline do you want to see unfold with Tom moving forward? If you want to read some more scoop on Dockery’s character, you can do so over at the link here.

Since they Sybil-Branson romance and storyline was my favorite (and didn’t get near enough coverage in Season 3 — would have loved to see their life in Dublin) it’s hard to imagine Branson with anyone else. A new woman for him would have to be very, very well written!
