‘Arrow’ episode 12 preview: ‘Fringe’s’ Seth Gabel is absolutely terrifying
Are you already missing “Fringe” on your TV screen? While Seth Gabel was just a small piece of that puzzle, “Arrow” fans on Wednesday are going to be in for quite a treat when it comes on board as one of the most fascinating and frightening villains the show has highlighted yet. He is not named Count Vertigo here as he is in the Green Arrow comics, but the drug that he is peddling on the streets of Starling City bears that name; and unfortunately for Oliver Queen, he is going to be more trouble than he can even imagine.
Unlike most of the other villains the Hood has squared off with, this man is just as much psychological as he is physical. He has the power to basically put people into a haze with the most addictive drug on the market, and he also has already landed Oliver’s sister Thea in hot water with the law. Is he really going to be able to be stopped? We have a feeling that this is not going to just be so easy as a confrontation on a rooftop somewhere.
What seems to be so interesting about Gabel’s interpretation of the character is that there is an element of The Joker in here, but also a little bit of another Batman villain in Scarecrow and maybe a little bit of Deathstroke’s physical prowess. He plays the part like a man possessed, and in some ways freeing up this character from the comic roots has enabled the actor to come up with something that embodies the spirit of the count, even if he is not a literal translation by any means.
