For Christmas, one of the executive producers of “Once Upon a Time” decided to hand out what may be one of the most magical gifts out there for the show’s diehard fans: a season 2 episode title that is particularly spoilery, and suggests that there could be some rather permanent happening to one of the characters on this fairytale-centered show.
Before we get too deep into speculation (which, to us, is always the fun part), let’s of course kick things off by sharing the message from Adam Horowitz that has us excited to begin with:
“Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays all! Here’s another #OnceUponATime title to stuff in your stocking. Ep. 215 ‘The Queen Is Dead’ Ho Ho Ho!”
First of all, we like to think of this “ho ho ho” as a more devious one (sort of like a British supervillain) than Santa Claus based on the quote that comes before it. Who could be “dead” here? Really, there are just a couple of possibilities based on how literally we take the word “queen”: Regina and Cora. (After all, Maleficent is seemingly dead already.) Considering that Lana Parrilla is a series regular, the latter seems like a more likely possibility.
However, isn’t it a little too obvious to spoil a major event in your title? We’re guessing that this is instead a reference to either a metaphorical death (possibly Regina letting go of all the evil in her heart?), or a part of some sort of sinister plot by one of the characters to make everyone believe as though they have kicked the magical bucket.
Regardless, this episode is likely to be a part of the February sweeps. Translation? It’ll be a big one.
What do you think about this episode title, and could Horowitz really spoil something so big in such a way? If you want to see our latest list of characters in demand to appear on “Once Upon a Time” season 2, you can do so over here.
