‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 spoilers: Kurt Sutter on future stories for Nero, Gemma

Sons of AnarchyOn Tuesday, we wrote about how “Sons of Anarchy” season 6 is going to largely highlight a far tougher Gemma than the one that we witnessed on the show for much of season 5. So how are we going to see the character return to her early form from the FX drama’s first few seasons? Let’s just say that a certain man in Nero may be involved … at least so long as Jimmy Smits is available and executive producer Kurt Sutter can get him on board for some more episodes.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, Sutter explained not only what he likes about seeing these two characters together, but what he thinks being in Nero’s circle of “associates” could do to strengthen Gemma’s confidence yet again:

“I dig [them] … In the finale, when he’s all twisted up about being back in the life, that’s the thing that makes Gemma the most comfortable. She knows what to do with those kinds of men; she knows how to be strong for those kinds of men. So, what does that look like? It’s a culture clash that we haven’t explored yet. To plug her into that world, which is traditionally somewhat misogynistic, could be interesting to see played out a little bit and to see what that looks like. I’d love to keep that going.”

Smits is indeed a busy man, but at the moment we are willing to wager that he will probably be back on the show in some capacity. Both he and everyone else involved seemed to enjoy the arrangement, and we have a hard time believing he will find a part that is meatier for him at the moment. How could you be upset, after all, with what may very well be an Emmy-worthy part?

Was the Nero / Gemma dynamic one of your favorite parts of season 5, and how much of it would you want to see moving forward? If you want to see some more of what “Sons of Anarchy” should do for season 6, be sure to head on over to the link here.
