‘Once Upon a Time’ season 2 spoilers: Ethan Embry books mysterious role

We love it when some castings on “Once Upon a Time” end up raising eyebrows, and we now have a new one that is certainly worth discussion for one primary reason: the character that he is playing is currently being kept under wraps.

According to a new report from TVLine, Ethan Embry (who is currently guest-starring on “Grey’s Anatomy” as the super-comforting doctor helping Arizona with her prosthetic) has signed on here to play the part of some sort of visitor to Storybrooke from the outside world. What could this mean? To us, there are really only two possibilities:

1. Somehow, the magic has waned in the town and everyday people can now find it on a map.

2. This person is connected somehow to the characters who are present here.

Really, the two immediate guesses that come to mind with this character are that he is either Rumpelstiltskin’s son Baelfire, or Henry’s long-unseen father. Of course, it’s possible that he could be neither, mostly because the character played by “True Blood” alum Michael Raymond-James has been long under suspicion of the same things. Personally, we’re hoping that Raymond-James’ character is not Henry’s father, mostly because is it would be too obvious given the photos out there that show already that he and Emma have some sort of long-standing history with each other.

Embry’s appearance is still several episodes down the road, but his status here as a recurring player suggests that we are going to see him in at least two episodes and potentially more than that depending on how his role fits in to the universe.

What do you think about this casting, and do you have any predictions on what role he will play?
