Madam Secretary season 4 premiere synopsis released; Morgan Freeman returns

Madam Secretary season 4 premiere

As we near the Season 4 premiere of Madam Secretary more and more details are being released. This includes the premiere synopsis for “News Cycle,” which you can see in full below:

When the assistant vice minister of Timor-Leste suddenly dies during a meeting with Elizabeth on the first day of the U.N General Assembly, she becomes suspicious after the president of Timor-Leste ships the body back without a proper investigation. Also, a “fake news” story surfaces claiming Elizabeth is responsible for the minister’s death, and Dmitri returns to work with Henry, on the fourth season premiere of MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Oct. 8 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Morgan Freeman returns as Chief Justice Wilbourne.

The synopsis definitely suggests that the series is going to start off strong in the storytelling department, and with Elizabeth already in hot water, it gives the impression that this season isn’t going to hold back. Starting off this way is exactly what we were hoping for, especially with Elizabeth not only in the hot seat, but also battling an issue we are facing in real life. This isn’t the first time the show has used real-life instances as inspiration, but this storyline hits closer to home because the issue of “fake news” is constantly being reported on. So we are excited and interested in seeing how the writers of the show have tackled the issue through Elizabeth, someone who likely has to deal with the show on a regular basis.

We are also extremely happy to see Dmitri come back in some capacity. He’s a great character who helps advance Henry’s character while also adding another piece of storytelling against the show’s main concept. In addition, some of Henry’s best moments were in situations involving Dmitri so it’s great to see the show continue their working relationship.

On a final note, the episode is also going to be a memorable one since Morgan Freeman is reprising his role as Chief Justice Wilbourne, which he has done during every premiere episode except Season 1. Definitely looks like the show is starting a pattern with that! Freeman is also an executive producer on the show and is set to direct the Season 4 premiere, a role that he has also taken on in the past.

So mark your calendars, Madam Secretary fans, because you don’t want to miss this season.
