Suits season 7 spoilers: Donna’s outlook in the 100th episode
Yet, we don’t want to be the person who comes in here and foolishly guarantees that we’re about to see a Donna / Harvey moment like no other, largely because there is no evidence of that. What there is going to be, however, is a chance to see Donna exploring her feelings in a capacity that is rather different from what we’ve seen from her to date.
In speaking about this story in a new interview with TV Guide, Sarah Rafferty explains that Donna’s state of mind goes beyond just whether or not she has feelings for Harvey, and is instead more about trying to find a place for herself and understand why some of her choices have gotten her to the point that she is at:
“I don’t think she’s realizing she wants Harvey, necessarily. I don’t think it’s that black and white. I think [her situation is] stirring up that there’s a void in her life. It’s stirring up the question of why that void is there. In this week’s episode we flashback to potentially Mark [Donna’s ex] and Donna’s last date, or one of their last dates, where it was really because Harvey was a third party in their relationship. She’s clearly reflecting on why, why she’s alone right now.
“I don’t necessarily think that means she picks Harvey as the guy that would fill that life partner position for her. I think she’s just starting to wonder. I think she’s starting to awaken to the fact that she is experiencing a deeper kind of loneliness and void in that department.”
Could this lead to a relationship with Harvey? Absolutely, but one of the clear challenges there is that Harvey is now in a serious relationship with Paula Agard, a woman who helps to squelch some of his insecurities and who makes him a better person. There are obviously some controversial elements of the relationship that the two have, but by most measures they are doing very well. It’s easy for someone to be happy for the two of them, just as it is also easy for Donna to wonder a little bit about what if. Even if she is not feeling romantic love for Harvey, consider that this is someone she’s worked with since the start of the series. Seeing him with someone is a reminder of where she is at in her own life. That reflection can lead to challenges of its own.
