Big Brother 19 interview: Allison Grodner on Mark, Josh, family segments, jury house

family segments

This past week in the Big Brother game saw the elimination of Mark Jansen, and while that event in itself was not surprising, there were a few surprises that still came out of Thursday’s eviction show. First, we saw a family segment that featured Jason’s wife discussing her pregnancy news; from there, we also saw Mark be surprisingly kind to Josh in his exit interview Julie Chen. When you consider some of the things that he said about him during the season (plus all the pots and pans), we’re not sure we would’ve been anywhere near as complimentary.

As we do every week, we’re back with some thoughts from executive producer Allison Grodner! Look below to see what she had to say about Mark/Josh, putting together these family segments for the show, and also what the state of the jury house could be with Mark, Cody, and Elena all currently residing there.

CarterMatt – I may have some recently bias here, but is the Josh – Mark ‘bromance’ one of the great dysfunctional relationships in Big Brother history?

Allison Grodner – They are definitely dysfunctional… We were surprised to see how forgiving Mark was during his eviction interview. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up being good friends when this season is over.

We saw Jason’s family tonight! What goes into putting together these packages, and when you decide to include them?

We actually film with houseguest families each week but when there is drama and breaking story in the house these packages get put on the shelf. This week has seen Jason become a significant player in the house. He was put on the block and won the veto and received some emotional news from home. We had room for an outside package and seeing Jason’s wife and son helped to complete his story for this week.

We haven’t had a chance to see the jury house this season, but are you ever surprised with how popular this segment is? What do you think the jury house will be like this year?

This has been such a divided house and the people on one side are now all in the jury house. It will be interesting to see the current jurors reaction as the others are picked off one by one. Cody has some very strong opinions about who he likes and who he doesn’t like.
