Wynonna Earp season 3 premiere date speculation: When should it be back?
However, the good news is clearly this: There will be a season 3 coming up in the future! Earlier this summer, the fine folks at Syfy did officially renew the comic adaptation from creator Emily Andras, which comes as a response to both the show’s ratings and also tremendous social-media buzz.
When it comes to the ratings, the series itself wasn’t necessarily hitting any home runs. Its average viewership was actually less than its Friday-night companions Dark Matter and Killjoys, but it brings something to the table that the two of them do lack: Constant Trending Topics on Twitter. It’s covered more extensively by the media than either one of these shows, and it has a tone and subject matter that are uniquely its own and different than most else of what is out there on TV. This should give you a little bit more of a sense as to why Syfy covets it so much — they know that it can generate its own press, and hopefully with that it also does find a way to improve its audience one year after another.
With all of this said, both Killjoys and Dark Matter are also extraordinary shows that deserve another year on the air to go along with Wynonna Earp. We’ll hopefully hear something more on this subject before long.
There is one ratings achievement for Wynonna Earp that we do want to celebrate: In terms of 18-49 demo viewership, the show is down less than 5% from its first season on the air. No matter the show that you’re talking about, that is all sorts of extraordinary and it’s something that should be lauded by anyone and everyone.
Let’s get back to that premiere-date talk
We know that we’d personally love to see season 3 back earlier than the summer, but we recognize that June 2018 is probably the perfect landing spot for the show for a number of different reasons. One of the biggest ones is the simple fact that Wynonna Earp does well enough here, and there isn’t much competition in this spot from broadcast counterparts. While there may be plenty of people who are out doing other things on Fridays, the show does perform well in DVR viewership and because of the timeline, Syfy probably doesn’t have elevated expectations for the show and how it needs to perform in order to keep it around on the air.
Odds are, we’ll get a chance to learn one way or another the season 3 premiere date for Wynonna Earp in the spring. While we’re of course curious about it already, there is really no reason for the network to rush things along before then — especially since these sort of things are almost always subject to change.
