Bachelor in Paradise Twitter casually includes ‘impeach Donald Trump’ message

Paradise TwitterHere is something that we absolutely did not anticipate being able to report on today — the official Bachelor in Paradise Twitter account throwing some shade at President Donald Trump in the wake of today’s comments about the horrible incident in Charlottesville.

Right in the middle of the episode tonight, the account ran what seemed at first to be a really silly, innocuous gif of contestant Raven Gates doing a cannonball into the pool — well, right in the middle of that, they also included #Impeach45. It’s pretty darn rare that you see a network account say this, but it’s pretty darn amazing that they did. It’s a clear swipe at some of his words, and it’s the sort of thing that also does make you take notice that we are getting past the point of no return when it comes to just how much negativity people are going to take. If you expose some people to something that they don’t like for a certain period of time, sooner or later they are going to determine that they’re, to quite a movie, mad as hell that they’re not going to take it anymore.

For the most part, we would say that the entire Bachelor franchise is largely immune to politics, mostly because it’s not something that is openly discussed on the show and intentionally so. The last thing that the network often wants to do is alienate its audience, especially since there are probably plenty of people in the conservative heartland who watch these shows and treat them as a guilty pleasure. We’ve already seen some complaints online, and of course people tweeting to ABC because they want to see whoever wrote this post get in trouble for it. Welcome to the tattling generation, folks! That’s one of the biggest uses of social media these days.

We of course screenshotted the tweet so that it will live on in posterity, especially since we’ve got a good feeling that this tweet is not going to be online forever. Every part of this feels like the handiwork of someone who decided to go rogue in the middle of the show and make a statement — if you were just casually scanning the feed, you probably wouldn’t notice it. (For the record, kudos to whoever went through with this for the guts.)

Bachelor in Paradise also happens to be one of the most-social programs on the air, with millions of people watching and tweeting about it. Therefore, we’ve got a perfectly good feeling that there are thousands of people who are seeing this even if they weren’t all that quick to retweet or like it themselves.

Update: The tweet is already taken down.
