Bachelor in Paradise 4 promo teasing DeMario Jackson – Corinne Olympions scandal pulled

Bachelor in Paradise 4

In the event that you haven’t seen the recent Bachelor in Paradise 4 promo that hinted at the recent DeMario Jackson – Corinne Olympios scandal: There’s a reason: This teaser for the upcoming season was already pulled by the folks over at ABC.

So what is the reason for that? As it turns out, the reasoning actually seems to be rather simple: The promo ticked people off. Despite it featuring tweets from real fans expressing how excited they were to see the show back on the air, there were many other fans out there who were very angry about its sensationalism of the scandal. Even though an investigation may have found that there was no wrongdoing on the part of studio Warner Bros. or the two parties mentioned, this was still a serious matter since it got into whether or not the contestants were drinking too heavily and if the people at the network were doing enough in order to stop it.

In speaking about this drama further to reporters today at the TCA Summer Press Tour, ABC’s own programming head Channing Dungey had the following to say (per Entertainment Weekly):

“We would never look for a way to sensationalize it … Bachelor nation is very engaged so there is nothing happening in the universe they are not up to speed with. The promo in question was comprised of a bunch of tweets from people who were experiencing disappointment. We thought it was cheeky and funny and in line with the show. Response told us otherwise and we pulled it.”

We just don’t know why anything related to this scandal would be considered a smart idea. Think of things this way: If Bachelor Nation is really up to speed on everything, don’t they already know that this is something that should be avoided in a promotional campaign? Wouldn’t they rather see a promo focus on some of the stuff that they don’t know already about the season? This is a show and a franchise that already has a little bit of a reputation for being manipulative and often over-the-top when it comes to its editing practices and presentation. As a result of that, they really do need to consider using more of a deft touch when it comes to some of this sort of stuff.

Also, consider this: So much has been said about the scandal already the past couple of months that it’s hard to figure out another way to have it be featured or promoted in any way.

What do you think: Was this promo a bad choice?
