Want to know the Fear the Walking Dead season 3 episode 9 return date following the midseason finale on AMC? Well, you’re not alone…

The biggest thing that we know following tonight’s two hours is that you’re not going to be seeing an additional installment for the show for a while. There is no new episode next week or the remainder of the summer, and there is one big reason for that: Game of Thrones. There is zero reason for AMC to want to go up against that steamroller of a show this summer, especially when it’s sure to swallow up some genre viewers who would watch the zombie drama instead.

Could the final eight episodes of the 16-episode season air following the end of Game of Thrones this summer? It doesn’t seem likely, unless AMC had some temptation to double up on episodes of this show and The Walking Dead proper, which is sure to premiere at some point in October as it always does. (More than likely, there will be a full premiere date for season 8 revealed at some point during the Comic-Con panel later this month.)

If we were to guess about a Fear the Walking Dead return date, we’d say that it will more than likely be between season 8A and 8B of the flagship show. It could start up in December, air over the holiday season, and be done before the flagship show returns in February. There is still one issue with that in that Christmas Eve / New Year’s Eve is on a Sunday this year, which means that you’re going to have a hiatus in there as well. This raises even more questions in terms of when the show’s back. It’s possible that AMC moves it to a different night for season 3B, and we suppose that in theory, they could wait on the final episodes until spring … though that does feel like a really long time to wait.

The thing that probably would help the ratings for the spin-off more than anything is if it gets an opportunity to air after the flagship show this fall, but that would serve troublesome for two reasons: It could lower the ratings for Talking Dead, while also giving people potentially too much in terms of zombie entertainment at one time.

Hopefully, there will be a little bit more in the way of information on the future of Fear the Walking Dead as soon as we find out.
