Outlander season 3: Richard Rankin heading to San Diego Comic-Con

Richard Rankin

We knew that some Outlander – San Diego Comic-Con news would be coming out soon since the convention is next month, and this is your first confirmation of that. Richard Rankin is officially heading to San Diego!

According to Entertainment Weekly, the man behind Roger Wakefield will be appearing at the Brave New Warriors panel taking place on July 21 at the convention. This is a panel that Sam Heughan has previously taken part in, and it should be fun for fans of Outlander to get to know a little bit more about him.

If there is any one Outlander actor who should be at Comic-Con, it’s probably Rankin given that he is a big-time gamer and we have seen an increasingly large presence of gaming at the convention. (We say this as someone who bought multiple Final Fantasy plushies on the show floor last year.) Also, Roger is going to have an increasingly large role in the show over time following his debut on the season 2 finale entitled “Dragonfly in Amber” (probably our favorite episode of the entire series). Rankin debuted at the same time as Sophie Skelton (Brianna) on the show, and she’s also going to have a much larger role in the seasons to come.

There is going to be a formal Outlander panel at the convention this year, though we are still waiting on specifics such as a day, time, and place within the convention. Odds are, it will be a big room, but if you’re at the convention you’ll still want to get in line hours in advance. They don’t always clear rooms between panels, so it is sometimes increasingly difficult to get a seat.

Beyond all of this, the aforementioned site did report that the September issue of EW will feature the show on the cover. Therefore, you have something more to look forward to when it gets closer to the show’s return. We imagine that we’ll know the show’s official premiere date long before then — if it’s not announced by Comic-Con, we have a hard time imagining the panel happening without a date reveal there.

Other Outlander news

If you missed it, yesterday we reported on a wide array of topics from executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, including when season 4 will start filming. You can check all of that out further over at the link here.
