Legends of Tomorrow season 3 casts Zari Adrianna Tomaz; Odette Annable talks Supergirl Reign

Zari

There are a couple of DC – CW highlights to discuss in this story, but let’s begin with the Zari Adrianna Tomaz – Legends of Tomorrow news.

Per TVLine, Tala Ashe of Smash fame has been cast as the aforementioned character, a Muslim-American from the year 2030. Per the official description, “Zari lives in a world of contradictions. Technology has brought about incredible change in her future — too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice, and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a ‘grey hat hacktivist.’” Basically, she sounds in part like Felicity stuck within the world of Helix, except while also dealing with cultural prejudices at the same time and not the same sort of support system that Felicity has on Arrow.

Apparently, Zari also has some ancient powers that she is not aware of, which hopefully doesn’t bring back Kendra / Hawkgirl memories from season 1. (Hawkgirl is a cool character, but can we all agree that the show really botched that in the first season?)

Ashe should help to give the show a little new blood; for now, it does appear that the majority of the characters from the second season are also returning.

As for Supergirl…

While this is a small note, it’s worth saying that Odette Annable is clearly very much thrilled to be coming on the show as Reign. The character will be the Big Bad for the third season, and for the Breaking In / House alum, this should be fun since it’s such a different role than she’s done before.

As for how Reign finds herself integrated into the larger story, for now this is one of the prevailing mysteries. Reign will probably be fairly different from the comics, especially since trying to get that sort of makeup on a daily basis would force Annable to spend 20 hours a day at work. (Who knows? Maybe the show will still find a way to do that.)

Both of these shows will premiere on The CW this fall, and they each have their work cut out for them trying to follow up on what are two very-good seasons that aired recently. These are shows on the rise, though Arrow right now is in pole position as the best CW – DC show on the air.
