Is Supergirl season 3 looking to Reign, Doomsday as new Big Bad?

Doomsday

At the end of the Supergirl season 2 finale, the writers created an epic cliffhanger. Could Reign or Doomsday be on the other side?

For the time being, very little for season 3 is confirmed beyond what was revealed via flashbacks: Another pod was created containing a baby who could grow up to do terrible things. This will morph into something terrible for the new season, and it could be the purest Big Bad of any so far. With Rhea and Astra / Non, you could see where some of their motivation lied. If season 3 is fronted by either one of these mentioned characters, they may just want to see the world burn.

Reign, for the time being, seems to be the likely villain given that she is a Supergirl villain from the comics, and her backstory is similar enough to what was shown on the show for it to make sense. She is a part of the group known as the Worldkillers born and bread for this specific purpose, and seeing her act out vengeance on earth in return for her own tragic past would not be much of a surprise. She’s also incredibly trained and powerful beyond many measures. Effectively, she may be more difficult to stop than the majority of Supergirl villains introduced over the years.

The one downside to Reign is simply that she’s a relatively new character to the comics, though it’s not like Supergirl as a series is putting a lot of A-list villains front and center, either.

As for Doomsday, he also has a backstory of being bred to create carnage, and his reputation for doing so is pretty darn massive. He’s more known as a Superman villain, and when you consider both this and also his recent appearance in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, you do almost have to wonder if this character is already a little bit over-exposed. The only real purpose in bringing him is if for whatever reason you want to do away with Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, and he is a fun character to leave out there.

It’s also possible that Supergirl could veer off in a little bit of a different direction and introduce an original villain. Given what Arrow did this season with Prometheus, you can absolutely make a case for it.
