Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Blue Bloods, Bull, more renewed by CBS

This morning, CBS made fans of their shows very happy this morning when they announced the renewals for the majority of their primetime lineup.

Let’s start now with some of the new shows that are officially coming back — Bull, MacGyver, Man with a Plan, Superior Donuts, and Kevin Can Wait. Of the group, Superior Donuts is the only show that that is a relative surprise given that it was a midseason premiere, but we think the quality of it has been solid and viewers have responded in a pretty favorable way.

Meanwhile, some of the returning series coming back include Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, Scorpion, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Los Angeles, Blue Bloods, and Life in Pieces. All of these shows were expected to return, with maybe Madam Secretary being the one that we were perhaps slightly worried about.

There are some other series out there firmly on the bubble. Both Criminal Minds and its spin-off Beyond Borders are still waiting, but we think this is due more to studio negotiations with the former than anything that has to do with its ratings. Elementary, meanwhile, is simply a show in danger after a subpar ratings performance the past couple of years. It’s harder and harder to justify keeping it as much as we love Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. Code Black is completely on the bubble, and shows like The Odd Couple and Pure Genius are expected to be canceled. Doubt pretty much is canceled after it was pulled from the air so quickly.

Meanwhile, we’re slightly surprised that the Joel McHale comedy The Great Indoors doesn’t have a formal renewal just yet. The same goes for reality series Hunted, which had a decent ratings performance for most of its first season and we’d be shocked if it gets canceled. We’ll of course provide a little more information on this down the road.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for a little more analysis on some shows that are in danger right now — congratulations to the casts and crews who officially have another year of employment.
