The Flash season 3 episode 17 promo: A longer look at ‘Duet’ musical

Duet -

The Flash season 3 episode 17 is coming up on Tuesday night, and judging from the new, extended preview below, there is a lot to love from the upcoming musical event.

We should start by noting the sole fact that The CW is smartly is not doing anything to make you believe that this is a two-part crossover, which is good because you’re probably only going to get a small tease of it on Monday’s Supergirl. The majority of the story is going to be told instead on The Flash, and this is all about that. You get a chance to see some really fun performances from start to finish here, and to go along with that, there’s also an appearance from Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist’s former Glee co-star Darren Criss as the Music Meister. He’s the villain at the center of the story, and while he may appear on the surface to be somewhat silly, he does have a darker, more-sinister motive behind his actions.

Now, let’s go ahead and get to some of the obvious criticism that is out there about this episode. Specifically, we’re talking here about the fact that Barry has Savitar bearing down on his world; yet, we’re going to be venturing into such a different territory here that is completely different in tone. Is this necessarily? Not in the slightest. We absolutely didn’t need to see a story that was all about the Music Meister now. Yet, at the moment, it should be fun! This is a fun show, and the main purpose of the story is going to be about providing fun and coming up with some unique ways in which to enrich the audience a little bit more. There’ll be plenty of time to tell more serious stories; this is a chance to take a risk, and have a little bit of fun to go along with it.

We will say that musicals are typically the love-or-hate variety. Therefore, you’ll probably either think that this episode is the greatest thing since sliced bread, or completely hate it and think that it’s something that was a complete waste of time. We don’t know if this will change anyone’s mind, but we absolutely still plan to have plenty of fun with it.
