Outlander season 3 notes: Caitriona Balfe’s speech; a common question

Outlander -

In this edition of our Outlander notes, we’re kicking things off with something that we feel is always a welcome sight: A Caitriona Balfe acceptance speech!

The video below (posted on YouTube via Outlander America) gives you a sense of her acceptance speech at the recent Oscar Wilde Awards in Santa Monica. This is a ceremony we’ve written about on a few different occasions, but the video below serves as a wonderful opportunity to get perspective and understanding straight from Balfe’s own lips. You can see her acknowledge J.J. Abrams and her role in Super 8, and then also describe the “magic” that existed being on set. That role, even if it was a small one, helped to pave the way for other opportunities down the road. Outlander is of course a breakout role for her, and we imagine that it will continue to be a launching pad for a wide array of other opportunities for her in the months and years to come.

This event is one of two major opportunities for Balfe over the coming days. She will also be at Emerald City Comic-Con this coming weekend, and from there, it will be off to South Africa to resume filming season 3. New episodes will premiere on Starz this September.

Does Starz have the rights to all Outlander books?

We could see this easily being a frequently-asked question for many people out there as we start to get further and further into the series. Luckily, author Diana Gabaldon was kind enough to give some insight on the subject on Twitter. The production company has the rights to make the whole Outlander series (we’re speaking about the main series specifically), but that does not mean they are obligated to make all of them. If the show continues at present, we’re optimistic that the full spectrum will be covered over time; much of that will depend on ratings and the viability of the franchise for Starz. Given the passion of the fan base and the momentum at present, why wouldn’t you be hopeful?

At the very least, the show’s already renewed for a fourth season. There’s nothing to worry about from that vantage point.

One other story worth checking out

While it may not be another Caitriona Balfe acceptance speech (we do love all of those), you can see a really fun recent piece over at this link that is all about some fun roles Sam Heughan could play on other shows — while still staying on Outlander, of course.

As always, we welcome your thoughts on this story below! (Photo: Starz.)
