‘Jane the Virgin’ season 3, episode 12 preview: Marbella mayhem

Jane the Virgin -Tonight, “Jane the Virgin” aired an episode that pushed the story forward in a rather big way, but at the same time, also may have left some viewers torn in the process. Did the series move on too fast from the death of Michael? There probably was no clear solution to this in terms of what they could do. They don’t want to shift the show too far from its comedic roots, but you could also argue that the series went the other way in this episode, giving you a story that felt a little too breezy all things considered. This story moved pretty quickly thanks to its time jump, and it gave us a chance to see Jane’s new life in its entirety.

In the end, we understand the choice even though we would’ve been happy to get a few more Michael moments here and there — though we assume more will be coming in due time. Next week’s “Chapter Fifty-Six” on the surface seems to be a story about tension between Jane and her boss; however, there will be so much more than that, including Petra trying to do something to keep the Marbella afloat in the wake of some new trouble.

Synopsis – “When Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is offered a book deal, she thinks her prayers have been answered and debates quitting her awful publishing job. After suffering from panic attacks, Jane is ready to get to the root of the problem. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) are working on fixing their friendship until Xo finds out that Rogelio has been lying to everyone all this time. Petra (Yael Grobglas) is running damage control on the Marbella’s reputation after a grisly discovery is found on the property. Meanwhile, Rafael (Justin Baldoni) is ready to be involved again in the Mirabella and his first order of business is finding the perfect person to manage the hotel lounge.”

All in all, this episode may bring “Jane the Virgin” even more back to its normal self, or at least whatever version of itself it is now. We certainly still expect the show to be funny, and hopefully one that keeps part of the soul of its past intact.
