Alec Baldwin will host ‘Saturday Night Live’ on February 11; Ed Sheeran to perform

SNL -Given that Larry David had an opportunity to host “Saturday Night Live” last season after a number of appearances as Bernie Sanders, it was only a matter of time before famed Donald Trump impersonator Alec Baldwin had a similar chance to shine.

Now, it’s official — Baldwin will host the NBC sketch show for a record 17th time on Saturday, February 11. Ed Sheeran will be making his second appearance as musical guest during this same episode.

Are we as excited for a Baldwin hosting gig as we would be in the event that we weren’t seeing him so regularly? Personally, we find it more exciting that we have him hosting since we’ve had so many reminders of his talent throughout season 42. In a way, seeing his Trump so many times likely overshadows a number of the other great things he’s done on the show over the years, and this will be a chance to showcase many of them. We feel like there’s a new generation of “SNL” fans who aren’t altogether familiar with Schweddy Balls, which is a dire travesty given that it’s probably one of the top 20 live sketches of all time. Given that this sketch was famous enough to inspire a flavor of ice cream at one point, we certainly do feel like it’s worth checking out.

This appearance by Baldwin as host doesn’t guarantee a Trump sighting during the episode, but you have to consider it likely to the point where people would be screaming at their TV if it didn’t happen. It was already surprising enough that he wasn’t in this past episode of the show, but hey, Baldwin’s not a full-time cast member! We figure he’s gotta have a life and time to sleep somewhere in between this show and everything else he’s got going on.

This coming weekend, “SNL” will be on break, and following that Kristen Stewart will be making her debut as a host on February 4; Alessia Cara is going to serve as the musical guest for that episode.
